Los Angeles fires: 85,000 Americans ordered to evacuate

uthorities in the US city of Los Angeles warned nearly 85,000 people to evacuate as fires temporarily halted Hollywood’s awards season.
About 85,000 people were warned they could face evacuation orders, with high winds expected to create dangerous conditions over the next two days as several major wildfires continue to burn in the Los Angeles area.

About 88,000 people remained under evacuation orders on Tuesday morning because of the fires, but another 84,800 were warned that they could be ordered to leave.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna urged people to consider leaving if they receive a warning, rather than waiting for an evacuation order.

The fires broke out in Los Angeles on the morning of 7 January and spread due to high winds, burning more than 37,000 acres.

As a result of the fires, approximately 150,000 people have been ordered to evacuate and more than 12,000 structures have been damaged or destroyed.

Estimates of the damage and economic losses caused by the fires range from $250 billion to $275 billion.
