In a move representing the resumption of trade between Ceuta, Melilla, and Morocco, trucks loaded with goods crossed into Morocco on Wednesday and Thursday after a six-year hiatus.
The Spanish government announced the start of goods crossing through the customs in Melilla as part of efforts to normalize relations between the two countries.
Morocco had closed customs with Melilla in 2018 due to diplomatic tensions, while Ceuta had been limited to the crossing of individuals.
Following a shift in Spain’s position on the Western Sahara issue, the borders were reopened in 2022, and the customs office in Ceuta was inaugurated this week.
