The United States imposed sanctions on Sudanese army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on Thursday, accusing him of carrying out attacks against civilians.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury confirmed that this decision reflects its commitment to ending the ongoing conflict since April 2023 between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Meanwhile, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the decision as reflecting chaos and a lack of justice, while U.S. Secretary of State Blinken expressed regret over his country’s inability to end the war in Sudan, hoping that the incoming Trump administration will continue efforts to achieve peace.
