Extension of Detention for Ousted President in South Korea as Protesters Storm Court

A South Korean court decided on Sunday to extend the detention of ousted President Yun Suk-yol due to his attempt to impose martial law, citing concerns about the potential destruction of evidence in the investigation.

Meanwhile, thousands of his supporters gathered outside the court, clashing with the police, resulting in the arrest of 40 individuals. Yun had declared martial law on December 3, but canceled it after six hours, which led to the suspension of his duties following a vote by the National Assembly against his continued presidency.

However, Yun remains the official president until the Constitutional Court rules on his removal from office.
