Over 200,000 Syrian Refugees Return to Their Country Since Assad’s Fall, According to the UN

The United Nations reported that more than 200,000 Syrian refugees have returned to their homeland since December 2024, with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi stating that approximately 195,200 refugees returned between December 8, 2024, and January 16, 2025.
This comes as hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees fled Lebanon to escape Israeli bombing and the genocide.
Since the war began in 2011, millions of Syrians have fled due to the economic crisis and internal conflict, while Turkey currently hosts about 2.9 million Syrian refugees.
