Gwadar Airport in Pakistan Begins Commercial Operations as Part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative

Gwadar Airport in the southwestern Balochistan region of Pakistan officially opened on Monday. It is the largest airport in the country by area, covering 4,300 acres.
The airport was funded and built by the Chinese company “China Harbour Engineering Company” as part of the Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to boost trade and provide direct access to the Arabian Sea through Pakistan.
Despite security challenges in the region, the airport began operations with the presence of Pakistani and Chinese officials, marking a significant step toward enhancing connectivity between Pakistan, Central Asia, the Middle East, and the Gulf states.
This airport, which will help boost the region’s economy and attract international investments, is a key part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, which seeks to achieve sustainable development for the region.
