South Korea’s ousted president Yun Suk-yol today refused to be questioned as part of a rebellion investigation, as dozens of his supporters face charges of storming a court building and committing violence.
Security was beefed up at the centre where Yun is being held in Seoul pending trial and at the Constitutional Court, which is considering whether to uphold his impeachment or reinstate him, authorities said.
Yun became the first South Korean president to be arrested while in power last week after he briefly declared martial law on 3 December.
His detention was formalised on Sunday, including a forensic photo shoot, after a court approved the arrest warrant, citing concerns that the defendant could destroy evidence.
Angry Yoon supporters stormed the West Seoul District Court building early Sunday morning after the midnight verdict, destroying property and clashing with police.
