An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck Taiwan on Tuesday.

According to a preliminary count, 27 people suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment, in addition to some material damage.

Taiwan’s Central Meteorological Administration said the epicentre was 38 kilometres south-east of Chiayi county at a depth of 10 kilometres.
