Mexico: Sheinbaum Calls for Calm After Trump’s Announcement of Strict Immigration Restrictions

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum called for calm on Tuesday in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of stricter immigration restrictions.
In her morning press conference, she emphasized the importance of Mexico adhering to signed agreements rather than responding to statements.
She added that many of the measures announced by Trump date back to his first term, including his threat to impose a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada due to their failure to stop illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
In this context, Sheinbaum confirmed that the review of the trade agreement between the United States, Mexico, and Canada is scheduled for 2026.
