Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan arrived in the Syrian capital Damascus on Friday in his first official visit since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime.
This was reported by the official Saudi channel ‘Al-Ikhbariya’ on its account on the X platform.
The Saudi channel did not give further details, but Ibn Farhan will meet the head of the Syrian administration, Ahmed al-Sharaa, at the People’s Palace in Damascus.
Ibn Farhan’s visit to Damascus, where he arrived from Lebanon, is his first since the fall of the Assad regime.
The visit, the duration of which has not been announced, is part of a series of Arab, regional, international and UN delegations to familiarise themselves with the Syrian administration’s vision for the next phase.
The Saudi minister last visited Damascus on 18 April 2023, where he met with deposed President Bashar al-Assad.
