Belarus: Lukashenko wins landslide victory in presidential election

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has extended his 31-year rule with a landslide victory in presidential elections, preliminary results showed on Monday.
Russian media quoted the head of Belarus’ Central Election Commission, Igor Karpenko, as telling a news conference this morning: ‘You can congratulate the Republic of Belarus. We have elected a president,’ Karpenko told a news conference this morning, according to Reuters.

Results posted on the Central Election Commission’s Telegram website showed Lukashenko won with 86.8 per cent of the vote.
