EU Foreign Ministers Agree on Easing Sanctions on Syria

On Monday, EU foreign ministers agreed on a “roadmap” to ease sanctions imposed on Syria, which were enacted against President Bashar al-Assad’s government and economic sectors during the civil war.

The union expressed its desire to contribute to the reconstruction of Syria and to build relations with the new Syrian leadership.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot clarified that the easing of sanctions will include vital sectors such as energy, transportation, and financial institutions.
