Brazilian foreign ministry summons US charge d’affaires over migrant deportation crisis

Brazil’s foreign ministry has summoned Gabriel Escobar, the charge d’affaires of the US embassy in Brasilia.

The ministry said it had summoned Escobar over what it described as the ‘humiliating treatment’ of Brazilian migrants deported from the US.

Brazil’s foreign ministry has demanded an explanation from Washington over the treatment of 88 Brazilian nationals who were deported last Friday after arriving at Manaus airport in the north of the country in handcuffs and chains.
