Denmark: Strengthening Military Presence in the Arctic in Rejection of Trump’s Claim to Greenland

Denmark has announced plans to increase its military presence in the Arctic and North Atlantic regions, allocating an additional 14.6 billion Danish kroner, approximately 2.05 billion dollars, for security purposes.

This announcement comes when Copenhagen has rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s demands for control over Greenland.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen emphasized that “Greenland will remain as it is,” stressing the rights of its people to self-determination.

Trump reignited controversy over Greenland with statements expressing his “confidence in the United States’ ability to annex the island.”
