Google has announced it will change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to “Gulf of America” on its maps, in compliance with a decision by President Donald Trump.
The company stated that it received inquiries regarding the naming and typically updates the names of certain areas when changes occur in official government sources.
Users in Mexico will continue to see the old name, while users in other countries will see both names.
Google also noted it will rename Denali Mountain in Alaska to “Mount McKinley,” following Trump’s signing of executive actions to this effect.
