US President Donald Trump on Monday ordered the construction of an anti-aircraft and anti-missile shield similar to Israel’s Iron Dome.

Trump signed an executive order entitled ‘Iron Dome for America’ on Monday.

‘The threat from hypersonic and ballistic missile attacks, cruise missiles, and other advanced air attacks remains the most catastrophic threat facing the United States,’ the order reads.

In furtherance of the goal of peace through strength, it is the policy of the United States to provide for the common defence of its citizens and the Nation by deploying and maintaining a next-generation missile defence shield,’ the order added.

The order did not specify how much the shield would cost or how long it would take to deploy.
