The United Nations affirmed that migrant detention should be a last resort after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a plan to detain thousands of undocumented migrants at Guantanamo Bay.
Trump stated he aims to prepare the military prison to accommodate up to 30,000 undocumented migrants, labeling them as “criminals.”
In response, a spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office emphasized the importance of preserving the dignity and rights of all individuals, regardless of their immigration status.
