5.7 magnitude earthquake hits Ecuador

An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck Ecuador on Saturday.
According to the German Centre for Geosciences Research, the quake struck at a depth of ten kilometres.

There were no further details on damage or possible aftershocks.

It is worth noting that Ecuador, which is constantly exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the border of the ‘Nazca’ plates, was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in April 2016, which destroyed villages in the coastal provinces of ‘Manabi’ and ‘Esmeraldas’ and killed 673 people.
