The Greek parliament failed to elect the country’s next president in the second round of voting on Friday.
One of the four candidates needed 200 votes in the 300-seat parliament.
Constantine Tassoulas, the former speaker of parliament and candidate of the ruling New Democracy party, received 160 votes, as he did in the first round, while the other three candidates again received less than 50 votes each.
A third round of voting will take place on 6 February, with the number of votes a candidate needs to take office reduced to a minimum of 180, in line with the Greek constitution, according to the speaker of parliament.
