Donald Trump said his administration has already had ‘very serious’ talks with Russia over the war in Ukraine.

The US president hinted that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin could soon take ‘significant’ action to end the conflict.

Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Friday: “We’re going to talk, and I think we may do something that will be significant… We want to end this war. This war would not have started if I were president.

Since returning to the White House, Trump has criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying he should have made a deal with Putin to avoid conflict.
