Uganda has announced the commencement of a trial for a candidate vaccine against the Sudan strain of Ebola, in a move aimed at curbing the outbreak that has resulted in the death of a nurse in the capital, Kampala.
The Executive Director of the Uganda Virus Research Institute, Pontiano Kaleebu, stated that the country is preparing to deploy over 2,000 doses of the vaccine in collaboration with the World Health Organization.
Although the vaccine has not yet received official approval, the World Health Organization has provided support by supplying 2,160 doses of the experimental vaccine.
