China imposes new tariffs on US imports

Beijing announced on Tuesday that it would impose new tariffs on selected US imports in response to President Donald Trump’s latest tariffs on Chinese goods.

The announcement came in a statement from the State Council’s Tariff Commission, days after Trump announced an additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports.

The commission said US coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG) would be subject to 15 per cent tariffs.

It added that crude oil, agricultural machinery, large cars and light trucks would be subject to 10 per cent tariffs, which will take effect on 10 February.

The White House said on Saturday that it would impose an additional 10% tariff on all Chinese imports from Tuesday (today).

On the same day, the US imposed 25 per cent tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico (excluding oil at 10 per cent), but Trump suspended their implementation scheduled for today for one month to discuss a trade formula with the two countries.
