Residents of the city of Goma in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have buried approximately 2,000 victims from the clashes that occurred last week, amid fears of disease outbreaks during the ceasefire period.
The March 23 Movement, a Rwandan-backed rebel group that seized Goma, announced a ceasefire on Monday for humanitarian reasons; however, some residents reported continued gunfire on Tuesday.
The Congolese Minister of the Interior stated that up to 2,000 bodies have been buried, while the World Health Organization confirmed that at least 900 people have been killed.
