The European Commission has announced the opening of an investigation into the Chinese e-commerce platform Shein for violating EU consumer protection rules.
An EU official stated that there is “reasonable suspicion of widespread violations of EU laws, including unfair contract terms and unfair trading practices.”
The Commission had requested detailed information from Shein in June regarding how it handles illegal products and manipulates consumers.
National consumer protection authorities in EU member states will investigate under the supervision of the Commission.
