US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem has announced the start of deportations of undocumented immigrants to Guantanamo Bay on the orders of President Donald Trump.
This was announced in a post on the Xbox platform on Wednesday, accompanied by photos of people in handcuffs with US soldiers.
Noem said: ‘President Trump has been very clear on this issue. The worst of the worst are going to be held at Guantanamo Bay. We started today,’ Noem said.
On 29 January, Trump signed the Lakin-Riley Act to prevent undocumented immigrants from entering the country.
Trump ordered the construction of a facility at Guantanamo Bay capable of holding 30,000 ‘criminal immigrants’, as he put it, who had entered the country illegally.
