The Ministry of the Interior in Niger announced that the military regime will hold a national conference from February 15 to 19, 2025, aimed at determining the duration of the transitional period that began after the ousting of President Mohamed Bazoum in 2023.
General Abdourahamane Tiani, head of the military council, had previously announced the organization of a “comprehensive national dialogue” to define governance priorities and the transitional period, noting that it could last up to three years.
In parallel, a committee has been formed to oversee the conference, which will aim to draft an initial version of the transitional charter to be presented to General Tiani after two weeks.
