Ecuador’s National Electoral Council announced today that the country’s presidential election will go to a second round.
With more than 90 per cent of the votes counted so far, no candidate has met the threshold for an outright victory.
He described the result as a “technical draw” after incumbent conservative President Daniel Noboa and left-wing lawyer Luis González won almost identical percentages of the vote.
The two candidates will face each other in a run-off election in April.
Voters went to the polls on Sunday to cast their ballots in the presidential election, in which incumbent President Daniel Noboa is competing against some 15 candidates.
