Fighting Breaks Out In Eastern DR Congo After Two-day Lull

Clashes erupted in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday after two days of relative calm, following a pre-dawn attack by M23 fighters and their Rwandan allies on Congolese positions in South Kivu, security and local sources said.

Fighting resumed near the town of Ihusi, about 70 kilometres from the provincial capital Bukavu and 40 kilometres from its airport, security sources said, while local sources reported hearing ‘explosions of heavy weapons’, according to AFP.
