Morocco: Earthquake hits Ouzean region

Morocco’s National Institute of Geophysics has reported that an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the Ouzean region in the north of the kingdom on Monday evening.

The epicentre of the quake was at a depth of 20 kilometres and was recorded in the Briksha area of the Ouzzane region, the Moroccan Arabic News Agency (MAP) quoted the institute as saying. Local authorities reported that the quake did not cause any damage, the official agency said.

In September 2023, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck south of Marrakech, killing more than 2,900 people and causing massive infrastructure damage in the country’s deadliest earthquake since 1960.
