New Lebanese government holds first meeting, forms committee to draft ministerial declaration

Lebanon’s new government held its first meeting on Tuesday at Baabda Palace, chaired by President Joseph Aoun and attended by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and the new ministers.

The meeting decided to form a ministerial committee to draft the ministerial declaration, consisting of Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri, Culture Minister Ghassan Salameh, Finance Minister Yassin Jaber, Public Works Minister Fayez Rasamani and Information Minister Paul Morcos.

The ministerial declaration is the blueprint for any new Lebanese government presented to the House of Representatives for a vote of confidence.

The ministerial statement is expected to cover several topics, most notably the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, Resolution 1701, the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, the implementation of the oath of office speech, and dealing with the economic and financial crisis.
