Amnesty International: “Over One Million Children in Haiti Live in a Hell of Violence and Crime”

Amnesty International announced in a report that more than one million children in Haiti live in areas controlled by armed gangs.

The report noted that the death toll in Haiti reached approximately 5,600 people in 2024, with 2,212 injuries and 1,494 kidnappings recorded.

The security situation has worsened since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021, allowing gangs to expand their influence.

The organization’s Secretary-General described the children’s lives as devastating, stating that they find no place for protection or justice, and that “over one million children in Haiti live in a hell of violence and crime.”
