France and Senegal are finalizing the terms for the withdrawal of all French soldiers stationed in Senegal by the end of this year.

A joint committee will oversee the departure of French personnel and the handover of military bases.

This move reflects Senegal’s desire to distance itself from its colonial past, aligning with a broader trend in West and Central Africa since 2022.

Both countries aim to establish a new defense and security partnership that considers both parties’ strategic priorities.

In November, Senegalese President Basile Dione May Faye stated that French bases are “incompatible” with the country’s sovereignty.
