A magnitude 6 earthquake struck 6 kilometres north-northeast of the town of Mitahara in Ethiopia at 20:28:23 GMT on Friday, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The epicentre was located at a depth of 10 kilometres at the intersection of 8.96 degrees north latitude and 39.93 degrees east longitude.
There have been no reports of material damage or human casualties as a result of the earthquake. Local authorities continue to assess the situation and monitor possible developments.
