Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said his country believes all parties involved in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine should take part in peace talks, highlighting Europe’s role in the talks after a flurry of US messages on how to end the war.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference yesterday (Friday), Wang said: ‘We hope that all parties and those directly involved in (the conflict) will participate in peace talks in due course,’ he said, according to Reuters.
China’s foreign ministry quoted Wang as saying: ‘China looks forward to all efforts devoted to peace, including any consensus reached by the US and Russia on peace talks.
US President Donald Trump spoke separately by phone on Wednesday to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, instructing officials to begin negotiations and saying he may hold a summit with Putin in Saudi Arabia.
