Lebanon president vows punishment for attackers of UN peacekeeper

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Saturday condemned the attack on the convoy of the deputy commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) as it travelled along the Rafik Hariri International Airport road in Beirut, stressing that the attackers “will receive their punishment”.

In a series of posts on the Lebanese presidency’s account on the Xbox platform, the Lebanese president commented on the injury of the outgoing UNIFIL deputy commander in an attack by youths on Beirut’s airport road on Friday evening.

On Friday, a number of Lebanese youths burned three UNIFIL vehicles on the road to Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut.

This came amid renewed protests for the second day in a row against the Lebanese authorities’ refusal to allow an Iranian plane to land in Beirut on Thursday.
