Mexico Moves to Amend Its Constitution in Response to the Threat of U.S. Intervention in Its Internal Affairs

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Thursday that she will propose amendments to the constitution to protect the country’s sovereignty after the Trump administration listed six Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
This designation has raised concerns in Mexico, with some fearing that it may be a precursor to U.S. military intervention on Mexican soil to target the cartels, which Mexico firmly rejects.

In this context, Sheinbaum emphasized that the Mexican people will not accept any foreign intervention that threatens the country’s territorial integrity and independence, noting that this designation is part of Trump’s policy to increase pressure on these criminal organizations.
