hina has begun construction of a new nuclear power reactor in Lufeng City, southern Guangdong Province, Xinhua reported.

Based on the CAP1000, a third-generation pressurised water reactor design, the No. 1 reactor will use modular construction, digital design and automated welding, among other techniques, to improve safety and economy.

The output will be equivalent to saving 15.77 million tonnes of standard coal and reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 42.69 million tonnes per year.
