Tunisia condemns OHCHR criticism of arrests

Tunisia has rejected criticism by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), which a week ago called for an end to the ‘arbitrary arrests and detention of activists, journalists and lawyers’. The Tunisian Foreign Ministry issued a statement late on Monday evening saying it was ‘surprised’ by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights report, which it said contained ‘inaccuracies’.

The Tunisian Foreign Ministry said that ‘no extra-judicial body has anything to do with the measures taken by judges in the application of the law’.
