Israeli Airstrike Near Former Hezbollah Secretary-General’s Shrine in Southern Lebanon

An Israeli drone conducted an airstrike on Thursday near the shrine of former Hezbollah Secretary-General, Hashem Safi al-Din, in the town of Deir Qanoun al-Nahr in the Tyre district of southern Lebanon. According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, the strike targeted the area surrounding the shrine, resulting in material damage but no reported casualties.

This attack comes approximately five months after Safi al-Din’s assassination on October 3, 2024, during an Israeli airstrike on the Haret Hreik area in Beirut’s southern suburbs. Safi al-Din was the head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council and was considered one of the party’s prominent leaders.

It’s noteworthy that southern Lebanon has been experiencing escalating tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, with exchanges of airstrikes and clashes along the border. This recent targeting is seen as a continuation of the mutual escalation policy between the two parties in the region.
