Heavy Rains in Bolivia Kill 37 and Destroy Hundreds of Homes

Heavy rains and flooding in Bolivia have resulted in at least 37 deaths and left thousands displaced, local authorities announced Friday.

Weeks of continuous storms have triggered widespread flooding and landslides, severely damaging infrastructure, particularly in rural and low-income areas. According to Bolivia’s Civil Protection Agency, more than 800 homes have been either heavily damaged or completely destroyed, forcing hundreds of families to seek refuge in schools and government shelters.

The Bolivian government has declared a state of emergency in the affected areas and is mobilizing relief aid, including food, clean water, and medical supplies. Military and police units have been deployed to assist with rescue operations and evacuations in the hardest-hit regions.

Meteorologists warn that more rain is expected in the coming days, increasing the risk of additional flooding and mudslides, which could further devastate communities.

Local authorities are urging international organizations and humanitarian groups to provide aid as affected residents struggle to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the disaster.
