Tunisia… Trial of defendants in ‘conspiracy’ case postponed to 11 April

A Tunisian court decided on Tuesday evening to postpone the trial of the defendants in the ‘conspiracy against state security’ case to 11 April and refused to release them.

The official Tunisian news agency quoted an unnamed judicial source as saying that ‘the criminal chamber specialising in terrorism cases at the Court of First Instance in Tunis decided on Tuesday to postpone the case of conspiracy against state security to the session of 11 April and to reject the requests for release’.

The source added that ‘the chamber examined the case today, and the trial was conducted remotely (for the detained defendants), and the defendants referred to in a state of freedom attended with their lawyers.

On Tuesday, the court heard the trial session of around 40 politicians in the ‘conspiracy against state security’ case, amid protests by the defendants’ families and civil society activists.

The case dates back to February 2023, when a number of politicians, lawyers and civil society activists were arrested.
