Argentina: Trial of 7 Healthcare Workers for Negligence in Maradona’s Death

Four years after the death of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, a trial will begin for seven healthcare workers in Argentina accused of negligence during his final days.

The trial is set to start on Tuesday in San Isidro, Buenos Aires, and will include over 100 witnesses, including family members and former doctors.

The defendants face charges of negligence and providing “reckless” and “inadequate” care, which could result in prison sentences ranging from 8 to 25 years.

Maradona, who struggled with addiction, died of a heart attack on November 25, 2020, while recovering from brain surgery.
