4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Southwestern Pakistan

A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Pakistan on Saturday morning, according to the country’s National Seismic Monitoring Center.

The quake hit Balochistan province, near the city of Khuzdar, at a depth of 15 kilometers beneath the surface. Residents in surrounding areas felt the tremor, causing panic, but no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage have been received.

Local authorities reported that many residents rushed out of their homes fearing aftershocks, while emergency teams were dispatched to assess potential damages.

Pakistan is located on an active seismic fault line, making it prone to frequent earthquakes. The last major quake, in October 2021, measured 5.9 magnitude and resulted in multiple fatalities.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and follow safety measures in case of further tremors.
