South Korea’s Ousted President Released from Detention

South Korean authorities released ousted President Yoon Suk-yeol on Saturday after the public prosecutor’s office decided not to appeal the central court’s ruling for his release.

On Friday, the court approved Yoon’s request to cancel his detention order, which was imposed following his brief imposition of martial law last December.

Yoon left the detention center on foot and bowed deeply to a crowd of supporters who had gathered to welcome him.

Yoon was arrested last January after attempting to enforce martial law, which led to his removal from office and the initiation of legal proceedings against him.
