The Syrian presidency has announced the formation of a committee to investigate the recent events that took place in the coastal areas following clashes between security forces and armed groups loyal to former President Bashar al-Assad.
This step comes amid rising sectarian violence that has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians in coastal regions such as Latakia and Tartus.
The Syrian Foreign Minister emphasized that no entity would be allowed to take on the role of the state and that anyone involved in violations would be referred to the judiciary.
