Pakistani security forces successfully freed 155 hostages who were held captive on the “Jaffar Express” train, which was hijacked by armed militants during its journey from Quetta to Peshawar. The attack took place in the Bolan region of Balochistan, where the assailants stopped the train by detonating parts of the railway track, trapping it inside a tunnel.
According to security sources, the armed group, believed to be affiliated with the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), initially took more than 425 passengers hostage before Pakistani special forces managed to rescue 155 of them in a military operation that resulted in the deaths of 27 militants.
The BLA claimed responsibility for the attack, demanding the release of Baloch political prisoners within 48 hours and threatening to execute the remaining hostages if their demands were not met. In response, authorities suspended train services between Balochistan and neighboring provinces to ensure passenger safety.
