The Libyan Football Federation has officially announced the appointment of Senegalese coach Aliou Cissé as the new head coach of the national team, replacing former Libyan coach Nasser Al-Hadi.
Cissé, 48 years old, has signed a contract extending until 2027, during which he will lead the Libyan national team in the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The official presentation of Cissé to the media is scheduled for Thursday, where he is expected to outline his vision for the team’s future, including the strategic goals and financial details of his contract.
Libya’s national team faces a crucial match against Angola in the fifth round of the World Cup qualifiers, scheduled for March 19. Currently, Libya ranks second in Group D with seven points, just one point behind group leaders Cameroon and tied with Cape Verde in third place.
Cissé brings extensive experience and a proven track record, having led Senegal to victory in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, a runner-up finish in 2019, and guiding the team to back-to-back FIFA World Cup appearances in 2018 and 2022.
The Libyan Football Federation hopes that Cissé’s leadership will revitalize the national team and strengthen its chances in upcoming continental and international competitions.
