The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) has announced the deployment of approximately 600 additional troops to the U.S.-Mexico border, increasing the total number of military personnel stationed there to around 9,600.
This reinforcement is part of the ongoing U.S. efforts to strengthen border security, combat illegal immigration, and curb drug trafficking.
Earlier, the U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) had announced the deployment of 3,000 additional troops to the southern border, further bolstering security operations in the region.
The Biden administration has made border security a top priority, implementing several measures to enhance surveillance and control over the southern border amid rising migration concerns.
The decision comes as border crossings continue to surge, with thousands of migrants attempting to enter the U.S. from Mexico. Officials emphasize that these troops will primarily support logistical and surveillance operations rather than direct law enforcement activities.
