Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa issued a decree on Wednesday evening establishing the “National Security Council”, aimed at coordinating and managing the country’s security and political policies amid ongoing challenges.

The decision comes as Syria faces security unrest in certain regions, necessitating a new institutional framework to ensure stability. The council is expected to include senior officials from security and military institutions, alongside advisors in foreign policy and economic affairs.

According to official sources, the council will have broad powers, including making recommendations on security matters, addressing internal and external threats, supervising counterterrorism strategies, and enhancing coordination between different agencies.
