Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte appeared via video link before the International Criminal Court in The Hague to face charges of crimes against humanity related to his deadly war on drugs.

Duterte is considered the first Asian head of state to be charged in the court, where he was informed of the charges and his rights as a defendant during a brief session.
